Features
Each issue of Voyager contains 8-10 main features. These must be based in or around bmi’s direct destinations (see list below) and appeal to the wide range of Voyager readers.
Voyager is a stylish and sophisticated lifestyle magazine. Stories are a mixture of interviews, features and general lifestyle.
They should be informative, innovative and light-hearted. Academic and hard news styles should be avoided. Its tone is that of the broadsheet supplements so quality of writing is paramount. Photography is also of a very high standard. More in-depth travel, food and drink features, or those that cover a specific or unusual aspect of one destination, are also of interest.
We don’t generally accept straight travelogues or first person pieces, unless the writer is an expert or high profile. Given that we want to impart an on-the-ground ‘insider’s knowledge’ feel, we prefer features from those who either live in, or are very familiar, with a destination rather than travel writers who visit for a few days. Stories should not be overly promotional, but independent.
Most Voyager features range from 1,000 to 1,400 words, depending on the subject. Subheads work well as do information box-outs.
Fee varies depending on the type of feature and is competitive with other magazines.

How to pitch to Voyager
If you are interested in writing for Voyager, please send ideas only. Do NOT send completed features or high-resolution images. We do commission writers we have not used before, but only those whose published clips demonstrate a high proficiency in magazine writing.
Pitches should be thought out and focused. A well-crafted pitch will usually run a paragraph or two in length, in which a writer should explain how they envision the completed story and why they think it works for Voyager.
Please look through recent issues of Voyager on this website to research our style and to see back issues to make sure we have not recently run a piece on the topic you are proposing.
We prefer pitches to be made by email as opposed to telephone. We do not accept pitches which aim to promote specific products or businesses.
We work 3 months in advance of an issue.
WRITERS MUST INCLUDE CREDENTIALS AND PUBLISHED CLIPPINGS.
Mail proposals to: Robina Dam, Editor, Voyager, 141-143 Shoreditch High Street, London, E1 6JL.

Prospective contributors doing preliminary research for a story must avoid giving the impression that they are representing Voyager or Ink Publishing. They may use the name of the magazine only if they have a definite assignment. We expect writers to be objective and adhere to journalistic codes of ethics.
