Autumn leaf-spotting

Catch the season’s stunning leaf colours while you can

For a very short time, the woods are full of reds, golds and oranges as trees prepare for winter. If you fancy a jaunt to see the best leaf colours, try these:

* The maples of Westonbirt Aboretum are turning bright red and yellow. It’s just over an hour west of Heathrow Airport.

* The mountains of the Ardennes, which covers more than 11,000km2, are just 90 minutes south of Brussels Airport and filled with lush woodlands, many with beautiful autumn leaves.

* Climb (or take bus line 38A via Grinzing) up the 484m-high Kahlenberg in Vienna for views down its tree-lined face into the city.
