Frieze: modern art fair opens in London
Don’t miss the UK’s premier contemporary art show
Every October, the art world goes gaga over its own version of London Fashion Week – the Frieze Art Fair in Regent’s Park, London. Get a ticket to see it this weekend, 14-17 October.
One of the world’s premier – and most prestigious – events for living artists, it showcases the works of a very select and and prominent group, including Bridget Riley, Susan Hiller, Wolfgang Tillmans. Art galleries also have to go through a strict application process to display here, with this year’s exhibitors including White Cube, Galleria Plan B, Taka Ishi Gallery.
Beyond the main fair in Regent’s Park, spur events take place in venues around London. A fantastic free exhibition this year is Painting with Light in the small lobby gallery of Frieze Art Fair sponsor, Hyatt Regency London, The Churchill. It showcases the work of five modern artists who take inspiration from Old Masters art styles, but give them a very modern twist. The hotel is just a minute north of Selfridges, just off Oxford Street, so pop in here for lunch or tea to give yourself a break from pounding the pavement.
