Our Danish star chef goes global

Copenhagen’s Noma restaurant wins top slot at the world restaurant awards

Rene Redzepi and Noma team at S. Pellegrino World's 50 Best Restaurant Awards 2010

Voyager was thrilled to see Danish restaurant noma.dk/ get top marks at the S.Pellegrino World’s 50 Best Restaurant Awards 2010 recently. And not just because we had seen this coming last year when we ran a large profile on chef/owner Rene Redzepi.

He and his team bounded on stage and did their customary group hug before accepting the gong. But the gravitas of London’s Guildhall setting curbed Redzepi’s famous rebellious tongue. At last year’s ceremony he had been rather more outré – declaring: “They used to call us seal-f*****s. Look who’s laughing now!”

This time, his team paid tribute to the one member of their gang who hadn’t been able to get a visa in time by wearing T-shirts with his photo on.

We’ll be paying tribute by flying out to Copenhagen and checking out the grub.
