La Clique, c’est chic
Edgy circus group La Clique is back in London

What started as a short run of shows at the tail end of 2008 snowballed into nine months that turned an underground scene into the capital’s hottest ticket.
La Clique picked up an Oliver Award for Best Entertainment in 2009, and, thanks to an extended run at the historic Hippodrome, took variety, cabaret and burlesque and planted them firmly in the mainstream. Now they’ve returned to London for a series of Christmas shows at the Roundhouse.
Made up of performers who actually did run away and join the circus, the La Clique family is cherry-picked from around the globe: Australia to England via Norway, Germany and America. Our highlight? Juggling Freddie Mercury-obsessive Mario, Queen of the Circus (pictured, top right). And we defy anyone to remain cool as The Skating Willers swoosh past the faces of the front row.
Producer Brett Haylock is already looking forward to their return to London. However, you need to be quick to see them.
“It is a strictly limited run,” says Haylock. “But who knows what the future holds for La Clique in London? Obviously we have a great following there and maybe that elusive long-term home for La Clique is still out there. We just haven’t found it yet.” Join this band while you can. Simone Baird
La Clique is on 20 November–17 January at The Roundhouse, www.roundhouse.org.uk
