Marcus Wareing at The Berkeley award
Chef Marcus Wareing may have entered the world’s best restaurant charts at number 52 but is tipped for the Top 50 next year

Restaurant magazine’s hot tip for a restaurant to make it onto a future World’s 50 Best Restaurants is Marcus Wareing at The Berkeley. They reckon that having finally stepped out of the shadow of his more famous (would you say infamous?) mentor, Gordon Ramsey, he is getting the limelight he deserves. Fair point, Restaurant magazine (whose editor Paul Wootton is pictured here giving the award to Marcus).
I’d just add that nearly 10 years ago when I was putting together a list for The Sunday Times’ New London magazine of the next wave of rising stars in chef-dom whom I would tip as future Marco Pierre Whites were the likes of Jason Atherton (now at Maze) and… a certain Marcus Wareing. I’d have put money on him, that’s how sure I was. If only he’d been a horse.
