The thoroughbred English Farbio GTS 400 would make Ferrari’s stallion break a sweat

The name may suggest that this fabulouslooking sports car has been forged by Gucci-clad Italian design gods in the wilds of Tuscany, but the Farbio GTS 400 is as British as Morris men and warm ale.

Designed and engineered by a group who include former employees of Brit sports car legends Lotus and Marcos, the GTS 400 takes Farbio’s original 262bhp GTS and ups its power output to 410bhp. That’s nearly 70 more horses than a Porsche 911 Carrera 4. But it’s precisely because it’s a low-volume car and not a Porsche or a Ferrari that makes the Farbio so special.

Of course, it doesn’t come cheap. At £94,000 it’s £15,000 more than the desirable Audi R8 but more than £40k cheaper than the most affordable Ferrari.

The Farbio’s performance certainly gives the Prancing Horse a run for its money – the 3.0-litre V6 engine will hit 62mph from a standstill in 3.7 seconds and max out at 180mph.

And all from a car made just outside genteel Bath. It feels slightly bizarre that a car which looks so muscular and beefy and produces a noise that mixes the correct amount of supercharged whine and sputtering rasp should be constructed amid the undulating beauty of the Cotswolds.

It’s beautifully proportioned, ever-soslightly exclusive and made with love. The Farbio GTS 400 is a car for those who dare to be different. Stephen Worthy
