Nissan’s new speedster

Speed freaks rejoice. This spring sees the official European release of the Nissan GT-R, the Japanese automobile manufacturer’s awesome sports car. First unveiled at the Tokyo motor show in 2001, the GT-R assumes the Nissan Skyline’s mantle as one of the swiftest vehicles on the road. It has already beaten the Porsche page-077_page_1_image_0002.jpg911’s lap time around the iconic Nurburgring track in Germany, placing it in the exotic company of the likes of Ferrari, Bugatti and Lamborghini. Although 2009’s European allocation has been sold, Nissan tells Voyager: “We’re not by any means shutting up shop on this car.” With prices starting at a relatively justifi able £54,000 – that’s a good £10,000 cheaper than the most modest 911 – you’d be daft not to get yourself on the list this month. Semi-affordable motoring has never been so much fun. www.gtrnissan.com
