If you don’t like sharing your beach space, then avoid staying at the Barbados Hilton – its 230m-long seafront is home to one of the biggest populations of Hawksbill
turtles in the Carribbean. If on the other hand you want to get up close to these serene and ancient creatures then you can dive with them in the idyllic Carlisle
Bay (after getting some instruction in one of the hotel’s two pools) or even see the babies hatch if you’re here at the right time (the hotel can hook you
up with a local researcher as a guide).

Larking about

Naturally the five-star luxury that you would expect of London’s Radisson Edwardian Heathrow is all there at the count: business centre, tick; ballroom for
corporate entertaining, tick; conference atrium with water features, tick; fine dining restaurant to woo clients, tick. But the 450- room behemoth has kept
its finger on the pulse as far as economy and speed go: they’ve recently introduced the breakfast-to-go if you are checking out before 5am which includes juice,
hot beverage and yogurt. The hotel’s just a taxi hop away from the airport so you can go from straight from bed to plane. 140 Bath Road, Hayes, Middlesex

While the The Grand, Brighton (on the coast about 1½ hours from London) has kept its wedding cake façade, its rococo interiors have been reworked in some of its
rooms. Expect contemporary furnishings, sleek new bathrooms, flat screen TVs and DAB stereo systems, lighter colour schemes and Gilchrist & Soames toiletries.
But traditionalists shouldn’t drop their toasting forks in shock just yet: many rooms have retained their comforting Victorian fittings, and they’ve kept the
remarkable staircase and marble reception area, which have been attracting visitors for over 140 years.
