Azadi Tower

You know you’ve arrived in Tehran when you lay eyes
on the Azadi Tower, also known as the Shahyad Tower.
Built in 1971, the white marble giant might not be
an ancient landmark, but for the last few decades its
iconic form has become synonymous with the Iranian
capital city. And it’s not just a pretty shape. Inside it
you’ll find a cinema, library and local history museum.
The structure’s distinctive silhouette references Iran’s
Alborz mountain range.

The Sheelin Lace Shop

The Scots have tartan; Ireland is famous for lacework.
The Sheelin, the award-winning museum which tells
the social history of lace-making in Ireland, is in
the village of Bellanaleck, Co Fermanagh, just over
an hour’s drive from Belfast. It has recently been
revamped to include a shop, where, for the first time,
visitors can purchase lace from the collection. Antique
wedding dresses and veils, christening gowns, shawls
and bags are among the items you can buy. Plus
there’s a new café serving homemade cakes.
