PROFILE   |  HAYDEN CHRISTENSEN

src="http://www.bmivoyager.com/images/2008/may/voyager_may_143.jpg">

Time and space are no obstacle to Christensen in Jumper – and no, it’s not about pullovers

  • Hayden Christensen was born in Vancouver,
Canada on 19 April 1981 and grew up in Ontario.
His surname provides a big clue about his
    ancestry – he’s partly Danish.

  • Christensen’s ‘big break’ as a
    relatively unknown actor came when
he beat Leonardo DiCaprio to land the
coveted role of Anakin Skywalker, in the
two newest episodes of the Star Wars
    series (2002, 2005).

  • In the 2006 movie Factory
    Girl, he played an unnamed
    musician and Sienna Miller
    played the lead role of
    Warhol-era party girl Edie
    Sedgwick. At the time,
    rumours circulated in the
    British tabloids that the
    actors were a couple.

  • As well as a home in Los
    Angeles, Christensen owns
    a farm in Ontario, Canada,
where he drives a tractor and
has two pet pigs, Buddy and
Petunia. He eats meat but has
found it hard to eat pork since acquiring them.

  • Christensen is unsure that his stratospheric
rise to fame has been wholly good for him. “Prior
to all this, I took pleasure from being the
observer,” he says. “Now I’m the observed.”

  • He frequently ranks highly in US
magazine ‘hotlists’, with credits to date
in People magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful
People (2002) and 50 Hottest Bachelors
(2005), as well as Teen People’s 25 Hottest
    Stars Under 25 (2002, 2005) and
    Entertainment Weekly’s 30 [Actors]
    Under 30.

  • Of his relationships with
    women, Christensen says: “I
have two sisters and a mother,
obviously, so I grew up with a
household of girls. Maybe I have
    a greater respect for women
    because of it.”
