2 Treat your mum

This year UK Mother’s Day falls on 2 March. What
mother wouldn’t appreciate a gift such as a
chocolate body wrap as part of a spa day? It’s one
of the presents suggested by gift company Red
Letter Days (www.redletterdays.co.uk) and is
available in and around London at a price of £99.

Think outside the box

Until the 30th

There’s no mistaking a Mondrian. Or is there? Learn the story behind his iconic geometric paintings of lines and coloured boxes, and see them in the context of his life’s

work, at Cologne’s Ludwig Musuem (www.ludwigmuseum.org). The exhibition Piet Mondrian runs until 30 March.

Have a laugh

6th to 23rd

French and Saunders (pictured), Jimmy Carr and the youngest face on
BBC Two’s Mock The Week, Russell Howard, are among the star line-up of the
Glasgow International Comedy Festival (www.glasgowcomedyfestival.com). An
annual laugh-fest that rivals Edinburgh’s Fringe, it’s now one day longer and sees
350 performances at 40 venues across the city.

Clown around

6th to 16th

Clowns come out in force for
the10-day Festival Pistes de Lancement in
Brussels – not to mention trapeze artists,
mimes, and acrobats. Prices start at €8 for
the event organised by the worryinglynamed
Catastrophe circus school (www.catastrophe.be) at their
headquarters in the
city’s Saint-Gilles
area.

Catch a movie

6th to 28th

This year’s Spanish & Latin American
film festival, Viva (www.vivafilmfestival.com),
promises to be one of its best. Highlights
include Déficit, the directorial debut from
actor and reluctant international heartthrob
Gael Garcia Bernal (pictured). Catch the
festival at Manchester’s Cornerhouse from
6-18 March and Dublin’s Irish Film
Institute from 18-28 March.

8 Tackle an opponent

It’s the battle of the Brits in this stage of rugby’s
famous Six Nations tournament, as Scotland take on
England at Edinburgh’s Murrayfield stadium
(www.rbs6nations.com).

10 Look sharp

10th to 15th

Belfast Fashion Week (www.belfastfashionweek.com) sees the Irish city
take its annual strut down the international catwalk, with new looks from labels
including Karen Millen, Miss Sixty and shoe fave Minnette showcased at the Baby
Grand Opera House. Public tickets for interested fashionistas start from £10.

17 Drink some Guinness

There’s more to St Patricks day than the famous
parade in Dublin that draws half a million people
a year (www.stpatricksday.ie). In the USA, for instance,
you can witness the spectacle of the Chicago River
being dyed bright green with vegetable dye in
Paddy’s honour.

21 Pick up a painting

21st to 24th

A day out at The Northern Art Show at the
Harrogate International Centre (www.northernartshow.com) is a
chance to buy original art for your home. Choose from thousands
of pieces in a variety of media, or get creative yourself at the
print-making and drawing workshops.
