The Israeli equivalent of Hallowe’en is the fancy-dress
festival of Purim, which this year falls on 21 March. The
festival dates back to ancient times, but the celebrations
now are very modern and international. Here, for
instance, the girl pictured has chosen traditional Chinese
dress as her costume for the parade through the streets
of Holon, on the outskirts of Tel Aviv.
