PROFILE Angelina Jolie
The megastar puts in another Oscar-worthy performance in the film A Mighty Heart
- Brought up in Hollywood, she is the daughter of the actor, John Voight.
- Her exotic good looks derive from her mixed ancestry which is Czech,
French-Canadian, native American Iroquois and English. - At 16 she took up modelling and appeared in videos for musicians including Meatloaf, Lenny Kravitz and
The Lemonheads. - She first gained recognition for her role in the TV film George Wallace (1997), for which she won a Golden Globe award.
- She got her major break starring in the 1999 film The Bone Collector, followed by her Oscar-winning role in Girl, Interrupted opposite Winona Ryder released in the same year.
- Her controversial personal life has always been in the news. She divorced her Hackers’ (1995) co-star, British actor Jonny Lee Miller and in 2000 married her Pushing Tin (1999) co-star Billy Bob Thornton (they divorced in 2002).
- While filming Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) in Cambodia, she was inspired to undertake humanitarian work. She began visiting
refugee camps around the world and was then formally appointed as a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High
Commissioner for Refugees. - Jolie, 32, has three adopted children: two sons Maddox, 6, from Cambodia and Pax, 3, from Vietnam, and daughter Zahara,
2, from Ethiopia. She is reported to devote one-third of her income to savings, one-third to living expenses and onethird
to charity. - Jolie filmed Mr & Mrs Smith with Brad Pitt, 43, in 2004 and after his divorce from Jennifer Aniston in 2005, they officially
became a couple. They have one birth daughter, Shiloh, 18 months.
