As 2006 draws to a close there’s plenty to celebrate. We’ve launched our first midhaul route to Moscow as well as expanded our network further into Saudi Arabia with the launch of our Jeddah route earlier this year. However, as the New Year approaches, it’s also a time to look forward.
At bmi we have always taken our responsibility to the environment seriously. We operate a young, fuel-efficient fleet and all inside pages of this magazine are printed on 100% recycled paper. Going forward, it is our priority to produce a consolidated policy covering all our activities, and we are now near to that goal.
In addition to our corporate objectives, we realise that the protection of the environment is a concern for our passengers and are developing a scheme for them to offset carbon emissions from bmi flights. Further information will be announced in the New Year.
Wherever you’re travelling this December, I hope you enjoy this issue and the rest of 2006!

If I were walking through Customs now, I’d be in the “something to declare” channel. For when it came to researching the Italian sparkling wine, prosecco, I needed little convincing. But even non-prosecco-fans can’t fail to be seduced by the unspoilt scenery and spectacular food of the Veneto region.
All of us here were overwhelmed by the commitment and humour with which the founder of the seal sanctuary in Groningen, Lenie ’t Hart, runs her heart-warming enterprise. Turn to p39 for the full story.
I wish everyone a happy Christmas – and an inspirational 2007.
